Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
