He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
