۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 leave them to eat, and to take their joy, and to be bemused by hope; certainly they will soon know! 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 and no nation outstrips its term, nor do they put it back. 5 And yet, they [who deny the truth] say: "O thou unto whom this reminder has [allegedly] been bestowed from on high: verily, thou art mad! 6 Why dost thou not bring before us angels, if thou art a man of truth? 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 Verily We! it is We who have revealed the admonition, and verily We are the guardians thereof. 9 (O Muhammad), certainly We did send Messengers before you among the nations which have gone by. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They will not believe in it, while there has already occurred the precedent of the former peoples. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 Even then they would say, “Our sights have been hypnotised – in fact, a magic spell has been cast upon us.” 15
