The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 And if you should obey a man like yourselves, indeed, you would then be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 There is nothing but our present life; we die, and we live, and we shall not be resurrected. 37 He is but a man who hath fabricated against God a lie, and in him we are not going to be believers. 38 He said, 'O my Lord, help me, for that they cry me lies.' 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 Then a mighty blast quite justly overtook them, and We reduced them to a rubble. So away with the wrong-doing folk! 41 Then We raised up other generations after them, 42 [for,] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [its coming]. 43 Then sent We our messengers in succession: every time there came to a people their messenger, they accused him of falsehood: so We made them follow each other (in punishment): We made them as a tale (that is told): So away with a people that will not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs 45 To Pharaoh and his establishment, but they were arrogant and were a haughty people. 46 And so they said: "Shall we believe [them] two mortals like ourselves - although their people are our slaves?" 47 So they denied them and were of those destroyed. 48 And indeed We gave Moosa the Book, that they may attain guidance. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
