The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they belied him; so We destroyed them. Verily herein is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
