If affliction befalls you, it is what your own hands have earned, but He pardons a lot. 30 and you cannot elude Him on earth, and you will have none to protect you from God [in the life to come,] and none to bring you succour. 31 And of His portents are the ships, like banners on the sea; 32 if He willed, He could bring the wind to a standstill and they would lie motionless on the surface of the sea, truly there are signs in this for anyone who is steadfast and grateful, 33 Or He may destroy them because of that which they have earned, and He may pardon many of them. 34 And those who dispute in respect of Our revelations may know that for them there is no place of shelter. 35 So whatever you have been given is but a passing enjoyment for this worldly life, but that which is with Allah (Paradise) is better and more lasting for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and put their trust in their Lord (concerning all of their affairs). 36 And those who avoid heinous sins and indecencies, and when they are wroth forgive. 37 And those who have responded to their lord and established prayer and whose affair is [determined by] consultation among themselves, and from what We have provided them, they spend. 38 And those who, when an oppressive wrong is inflicted on them, (are not cowed but) help and defend themselves. 39 And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, but whoever forgives and amends, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely He does not love the unjust. 40 And whosoever vindicateth himself after wrong done to him; these! against them there is no way of blame. 41 Only those who do injustice to people and commit rebellion on earth for no reason will be questioned. They will suffer a painful torment. 42 But he who patiently endures and forgives, that is a conduct of great resolve. 43
