The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
