The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers - Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 All that is in the life to come and all that is in this life belongs only to God. 25
