Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 enveloping people. That will be a grievous scourge. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Saying: restore to me the bondmen of Allah, verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 and pleasant things in which they delighted! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
