The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign they turn away, and they say 'A continuous sorcery!' 2 And deny, and follow their own vain desires; but every matter is determined at its time. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 but the warnings have proved to have no effect on them. 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running in confusion towards the Summoning Voice; [and] those who [now] deny the truth will exclaim, "Calamitous is this Day!" 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Then he supplicated to his Lord, (saying): 'I am overcome, help me' 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 We bore him on an [ark] which, made of planks and nails, 13 Sailing, before Our eyes, a reward for him who was denied. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 Plucking out men as if they were roots of palm-trees torn up (from the ground). 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
