Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
KAF HA YA 'AIN SAD. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 And surely I fear my cousins after me, and my wife is barren, therefore grant me from Thyself an heir, 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 Said He, 'So it shall be; thy Lord says, "Easy is that for Me, seeing that I created thee aforetime, when thou wast nothing."' 9 He said: "O Lord, give me a token." "Though sound," He answered, "you will not talk to any one for three nights running." 10 Then he came forth unto his people from the sanctuary, and signified to them: Glorify your Lord at break of day and fall of night. 11 O Yahya! hold fast the book. And We vouchsafed unto him wisdom, while yet a child. 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 And kind to his parents, and he was not overbearing or rebellious. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
