And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 Recall what time he ran away unto a laden ship. 140 And he drew lots and was among the losers. 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would have remained in its belly till the day when all will be raised. 144 ۞ We cast him out of the fish unto dry land and he was sick. 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more, 147 And they believed, so We gave them provision till a time. 148 Now ask thou them: are there for thy Lord daughters and for them sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females while they were witnesses? 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 " Allah has begotten," and indeed, they are liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What is amiss with you and your judgment? 154 Will you not then reflect? 155 “Or do you have some clear proof?” 156 Then produce your writ, if ye are truthful. 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah 162 Except those who are predestined to burn in Hell! 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 "And we are verily those who declare (Allah's) glory!" 166 And surely they used to say: 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And watch them and they shall see (the punishment)! 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends upon their courtyards, evil will be the morning of those forewarned. 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And (then) see, for they too shall see. 179 Exalted be your Lord, the Lord of Glory, above what they attribute to Him, 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 And all praise to God, the Lord of all the worlds. 182
