So they set out till they (came to the quay) and went on board a ship in which he made a hole, (and Moses said:) "You have made a hole in the boat to drown its passengers? You have done a strange thing!" 71 He replied, "Did I not tell you that you would never be able to bear with me patiently?" 72 He said, 'Do not take me to task that I forgot, neither constrain me to do a thing too difficult.' 73 Then the two went forth until they met a lad whom he slew, whereupon Moses exclaimed: "What! Have you slain an innocent person without his having slain anyone? Surely you have done a horrible thing." 74 ۞ Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 75 Moses replied, "If I ever ask you about anything after this, do not let me accompany you. I will have given you sufficient excuse." 76 So they twain journeyed on till, when they came unto the folk of a certain township, they asked its folk for food, but they refused to make them guests. And they found therein a wall upon the point of falling into ruin, and he repaired it. (Moses) said: If thou hadst wished, thou couldst have taken payment for it. 77 He replied, "This is where we should depart from one another. I shall give an explanation to you for all that I have done for which you could not remain patient. 78 As for the ship, it belonged to poor people working on the sea. I rendered it imperfect because behind them there was a king who was taking every ship by brutal force. 79 And as for the boy, his parents were believers and we feared lest he should make disobedience and ingratitude to come upon them: 80 "So we desired that their Lord would give them in exchange (a son) better in purity (of conduct) and closer in affection. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure belonging to them, and their father had been righteous, and thy Lord intended that they should come to their full strength and should bring forth their treasure as a mercy from their Lord; and I did it not upon my own command. Such is the interpretation of that wherewith thou couldst not bear. 82
