The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! for you the males and for Him the females! 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
