Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither give strength nor satisfy the hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 well-pleased with their striving. 9 In the high empyrean, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And goblets set at hand 14 And cushions ranged 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
