The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 He saw Him indeed another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
