The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On studded thrones. 15 facing one another. 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
