The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
