The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 that We may bring forth thereby grain and plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The day the trumpet blast is sounded you will come in hordes; 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
