The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 But they will soon come to know. 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 And We made the night to be a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
