The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
THE LAST HOUR draws near, and the moon is split asunder! 1 And if they behold a portent they turn away and say: Prolonged illusion. 2 And they belied, and they followed their lusts; and every affair cometh to a final goal. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Perfect wisdom (this Quran), but (the preaching of) warners benefit them not, 5 Wherefore withdrew thou from them. The Day whereon the summoner will summon mankind unto a thing unpleasant. 6 their eyes will be humbled as they come out from their graves as if they were scattered locusts, 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 So he invoked his Lord, "Indeed, I am overpowered, so help." 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 and We caused the earth to burst with gushing springs: so that the waters met for a purpose which had been decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 She floats under our eyes (and care): a recompense to one who had been rejected (with scorn)! 14 And verily We left it as a token; but is there any that remembereth? 15 How terrible was My torment and the result of (their disregard) of My warning. 16 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 it swept the people away as though they were palm-trunks uprooted: 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
