Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he ran away to a ship completely laden, 140 and cast lots, and was of the rebutted, 141 Then a (big) fish swallowed him and he had done an act worthy of blame. 142 Had he not been one of those who struggled hard, 143 He would have stayed in its belly till the day the dead are raised. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a desert shore while he was sick; 145 And We caused to grow over him a gourd vine. 146 And We sent him towards a hundred thousand people, in fact more. 147 So they accepted faith – We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 So ask them for a pronouncement -- Has thy Lord daughters, and they sons? 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 No indeed! It is one of their fabrications when they say: 151 'God has begotten a son.' They are certainly liars. 152 Did He (then) choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 What, will you not remember? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Then bring your Book if you are truthful! 157 And they assert a relationship between Him and the jinn; and certainly the jinn do know that they shall surely be brought up; 158 Exalted is Allah above what they describe, 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 except him who shall roast in Hell. 163 And there is none of us but has an assigned place, 164 Verily, we (angels), we stand in rows for the prayers (as you Muslims stand in rows for your prayers); 165 “And indeed we are those who say His purity.” 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If only we had had before us a Message from those of old, 168 then were we God's sincere servants.' 169 But (now) they disbelieve in it, so they will come to know. 170 And Our word has already preceded for Our servants, the messengers, 171 That they verily would be made triumphant. 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 Hence, turn thou aside for a while from those [who deny the truth,] 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 What! would they then hasten on Our chastisement? 176 But when it descends into the open space before them, evil will be the morning for those who were warned (and heeded not)! 177 So turn away from them for a time 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glory to thy Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they ascribe (to Him)! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 and all praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe. 182
