The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 they see it as being far off; 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 For the (needy) who asks and him who is prevented (for some reason from asking); 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Verily! The torment of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
