The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ A. L. R. These are the Ayats of Revelation,- of a Qur'an that makes things clear. 1 It could be that those who disbelieve will wish that they were Muslims. 2 Let them eat and enjoy themselves and be diverted by [false] hope, for they are going to know. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 Neither can a people anticipate its term, nor delay it. 5 They say: 'You to whom the Remembrance is sent down, you are indeed mad. 6 Why do you not bring down the angels upon us, if you are truthful?" 7 We send not down the angels save with the Fact, and in that case (the disbelievers) would not be tolerated. 8 We have sent down this Exposition, and We will guard it. 9 And indeed We sent Noble Messengers before you, to the former nations. 10 And no messenger would come to them except that they ridiculed him. 11 Even so do we let it creep into the hearts of the sinners - 12 They do not believe in him, and the tradition of earlier nations has passed. 13 And even if We opened unto them a gate of heaven and they kept mounting through it, 14 they would still have said: "Surely our eyes have been dazzled; rather, we have been enchanted." 15
