The tribe of Ad rejected the Messengers. 123 When their fellowman Hud said to them, “Do you not fear?” 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 So fear God, and obey me; 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 "Verily, I fear for you the torment of a Great Day." 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
