The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 Within gardens and springs 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
