A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
