۞ "Bring ye up", it shall be said, "The wrong-doers and their wives, and the things they worshipped- 22 instead of God, and lead them all onto the way to the blazing fire, 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 In fact this day they have all surrendered. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will say, "No! It was you who would not believe -- 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 And we led you to deviation; indeed, we were deviators." 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to those who drink. 46 there is neither sickness in it, nor intoxication. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will start the talk and say: "I had an intimate companion (on the earth), 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then looketh he and seeth him in the depth of hell. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For this the toilers should strive." 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of AzZakkum! 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 (Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell, 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 And indeed, they will eat from it and fill with it their bellies. 66 Then after it, indeed for them is the drink of boiling hot water. 67 They can only return to hell. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 and We sent among them warners; 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
