Said the Council of the unbelievers of his people, who cried lies to the encounter of the world to come, and to whom We had given ease in the present' life, 'This is naught but a mortal like yourselves, who eats of what you eat and drinks of what you drink. 33 if you obey a human being just like yourselves, then you will surely be lost. 34 Does he promise you that when you have died and become dust and bones that you will be brought forth [once more]? 35 ۞ Away! away with that wherewith ye are promised; 36 There is no other life than the life of the world. We shall live here and here shall we die; and we are not going to be raised again. 37 He is just a man who invents a lie about God; we cannot believe in him." 38 He said: "O my Lord! Help me because they deny me." 39 God replied, "After a very short time they will certainly regret for their deeds." 40 So the (Awful) Cry overtook them rightfully, and We made them like as wreckage (that a torrent hurleth). A far removal for wrongdoing folk! 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor can it put it back. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 They said, "Are we to believe in two human beings like ourselves, while their people are subject to us?" 47 So they accused them of falsehood, and they became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and gave them shelter on a peaceful hillside watered by a fresh spring. 50
