In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
