The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Woe to the stinters who, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 Whereas when they give others after measuring or weighing, they give them less! 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 Unto an Awful Day, 5 A Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 By no means! Verily the record of the ungodly is in Sijjin. 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 A book inscribed. 9 Woe on that Day unto those who give the lie to the truth 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When our signs are recited to him, he says, 'Fairy-tales of the ancients!' 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 On the Day of Judgment, they will certainly be barred from the mercy of their Lord. 15 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell, 16 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny. 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 It is a written book, 20 which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 When passing by them, they would wink at one another 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 On (high) thrones, looking (at all things). 35 "Are these deniers of the truth being [thus] requited for [aught but] what they were wont to do?" 36
