'This', said he (Pharaoh) to his Council, 'is a cunning sorcerer 34 Who would drive you out of your land by his magic. Now what counsel ye? 35 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 36 who shall bring to you every skilful sorcerer." 37 So the wizards were gathered together at a set time on a day appointed. 38 And it was said to the people, “Have you (also) gathered?” 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 So when the magicians came, they said to Firaun, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 41 'Yes, indeed' he answered, 'and you shall become among those who are near stationed' 42 Moses said to them: "Cast what you have to cast." 43 So they cast their ropes and staffs, saying: 'By Pharaoh's might, we shall be the victors' 44 Thereafter, Moses threw down his rod and behold, it went about swallowing up all the false devices they had contrived. 45 And the wizards were flung prostrate, 46 saying, "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 47 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 48 Fir'awn said: ye believed in him ere I gave you leave. Verily he is your chief who hath taught you magic, so ye shall surely come to know. Surely I shall cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides and surely I shall crucify you all. 49 They said: no harm! verily unto our Lord we are to return. 50 “We hope that our Lord will forgive us our mistakes, as we are the first to believe.” 51
