The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
