The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We might bring forth thereby grain, and herbs, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 But they belied Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, and that which Our Prophet (Peace be upon him) brought) completely. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
