The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and his morning brightness 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 And the day when it shows it, 3 and by the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 and by the soul and by Him Who perfectly proportioned it, 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he fails that corrupts it! 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 When the most wretched of them was sent forth. 12 But the Messenger of Allah said to them: "It is a She-camel of Allah! And (bar her not from) having her drink!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events). 15
