Jonah too was one of the messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 And then they cast lots and he was the one who lost, 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 and had he not been among those who exalt (Allah), 143 He would have remained inside its belly until the Day they are resurrected. 144 ۞ So We cast him, sick, on a barren shore, 145 And We grew a tree of gourd (as a shelter) above him. 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 So they accepted faith We therefore gave them usage for a while. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?” 150 Is it not that they say, from their own invention, 151 "God has begotten (children)?" They are liars indeed! 152 Hath He chosen daughters above sons? 153 What aileth you? How judge ye? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or have you received some clear authority? 156 Then produce your scriptures, if you are telling the truth. 157 They claim that He has kinship with the jinn, yet the jinn themselves know that they will be produced before Him [for judgement]. 158 Glory to Allah! (He is free) from the things they ascribe (to Him)! 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 Therefore you and all what you worship. (The disbelievers and their deities.) 161 Can lead (any) into temptation concerning Allah, 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 [The angels say], "There is not among us any except that he has a known position. 164 We are surely those who are arranged in ranks. 165 And we are those who sing hallelujas to Him." 166 And indeed they used to say: 167 "Had we received guidance from the people living before us, 168 we would have been sincere worshipers of Allah' 169 But (now that the Qur'an has come), they reject it: But soon will they know! 170 And, verily, Our Word has gone forth of old for Our slaves, the Messengers, 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 and that, verily, Our hosts - they indeed - would [in the end] be victorious! 173 So turn away from them for a while. 174 See them and soon they shall see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 So when it does descend in their courtyards so what an evil morning it will be for those who were warned! 177 So turn (O Muhammad SAW) away from them for a while, 178 and see [them for what they are]; and in time they [too] will come to see [what they do not see now]. 179 Exalted is your Lord, the Lord of might, above what they describe. 180 So peace be on the messengers, 181 It is only God, the Lord of the Universe, who deserves all praise. 182
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: The Arrangers (Al-Saaffaat). Sent down in Mecca after Animals (Al-An 'aam) before Luqmaan (Luqmaan)
