Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 as a mercy from your Lord, He hears all and knows all, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 (The reply came:) "March forth with My Servants by night: for ye are sure to be pursued. 23 “And leave the sea as it is, parted in several places; indeed that army will be drowned.” 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
