The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Then, no! They are going to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 Everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
