He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
