Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn We created before, of intensely hot fire. 27 And recall when your Lord said to the angels, “I will create man from sounding clay made out of black smelly mud.” 28 And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of My [created] soul, then fall down to him in prostration." 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 But Iblis (did it not); he refused to be with those who made obeisance. 31 Said He, 'What ails thee, Iblis, that thou art not among those bowing?' 32 He said it was not for me that I should prostrate myself unto a human being whom Thou hast created from ringing clay of loam moulded. 33 Said He: "Go forth, then, from this [angelic state]: for, behold, thou art [henceforth] accursed, 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 "Till the Day of the time appointed." 38 He said: my Lord! because Thou hast led me to err I will surely make things fairseeming unto them on the earth and will surely seduce them all: 39 except the devoted amongst Your worshippers. 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Verily as for My bondmen, no authority shalt thou have over them, except the erring one who follow thee. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Seven gates it has, and unto each gate a set portion of them belongs.' 44
