The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He surely will receive an easy reckoning, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And he shall roast into a Blaze. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yes indeed, his Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 and the moon, as it grows to its fullness: 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 But what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 In fact the disbelievers keep denying. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them news of painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
