The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour of Resurrection drew near and the moon split asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 They deny the truth and follow their own whims, every matter has its appointed time, 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 Their eyes humbled, they will emerge from the graves as if they were locusts spreading, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 And so We caused the gates of heaven to open with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and We made the earth burst forth with springs, and all this water converged to fulfil that which had been decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 and it floated under Our eyes: a recompense for him who had been rejected with ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 The people of `Ad rejected Our guidance. How terrible was My torment and the result (of their disregard) of My warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Yea, how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
