The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 About the great event, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
