He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
