The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists), 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or orders piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No indeed; surely, if he gives not over, We shall seize him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
