And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 brought down by the Faithful Spirit 193 Upon thy heart, that thou mayest be of the warners, 194 It has been revealed in plain Arabic. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Is it not a Sign to them - (to wit, the Makkans) - that the learned men of the Children of Israel know that? 197 And even if We had revealed it to one among the foreigners 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 We have thus caused denial of truth to enter into the hearts of the sinners: 200 They will not believe in it until they see the grievous Penalty; 201 The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. 202 and they will say, 'Shall we be respited?' 203 Do they want to hasten Our torment? 204 Then have you considered if We gave them enjoyment for years 205 And then there came to them that which they were promised? 206 It will profit them not that they enjoyed (this life)! 207 And We destroyed not a city but it had its warners. 208 As a reminder; and never have We been unjust. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 for, neither does it suit their ends, nor is it in their power [to impart it to man]: 211 Truly, they are expelled from hearing. 212 So invoke not with Allah another ilah (god) lest you be among those who receive punishment. 213 And warn, [O Muhammad], your closest kindred. 214 and be meek to the believers who follow you. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 Put thy trust in the All-mighty, the All-compassionate 217 who sees thee when thou standest 218 And your movements among those who bow in homage to God. 219 Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying, wicked person, 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, the erring follow them, 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 preaching what they do not practice. 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
