The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Terror descends 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and spreading shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits abounding 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
