The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be condemned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
