Now what counsel ye? 35 They said: "Put him and his brother off awhile, and send summoners to the cities to gather 36 That they may bring to thee every magician knowing. 37 So all the magicians gathered together at the appointed time 38 And it was said unto the people: are ye going to assemble. 39 Belike we may follow the magicians if they are the winners? 40 Then, when the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, they said: 'Shall we receive a wage if we win' 41 He said: Yes, and surely you will then be of those who are made near. 42 Moses said to them: "Throw ye - that which ye are about to throw!" 43 Then they threw down their cords and their staves and said: By Pharaoh's might, lo! we verily are the winners. 44 Then Musa cast down his staff and lo! it swallowed up the lies they told. 45 Thereupon the magicians fell down in prostration, 46 And said: "We (affirm and) believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 47 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 48 (Pharaoh) said: Ye put your faith in him before I give you leave. Lo! he doubtless is your chief who taught you magic! But verily ye shall come to know. Verily I will cut off your hands and your feet alternately, and verily I will crucify you every one. 49 They said, "It does not matter. We shall be returning to our Lord. 50 Surely we hope that our Lord will forgive us our wrongs because we are the first of the believers. 51
