Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Wait for the day (which will come before the Day of Judgment) when the sky will give out dense smoke 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 But how will they take heed? Such are they that a Messenger came to them clearly expounding the Truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "He is a madman, taught by others!" 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day We inflict the direst scourge upon all sinners, We will certainly exact retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 But then, [when they beset him with their enmity,] he called out to his Sustainer, "These are [indeed] people lost in sin!" 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
